While numerous OZ films have been announced over the last few years, most have fallen by the wayside or are still in development, but two are coming fairly soon – Disney’s live-action Oz The Great And Powerful, and the animated Dorothy Of Oz. Now the trailer for the latter is here. The plot begins as Dorothy returns to Kansas to find it devastated by the tornado that sent her to Oz. Before she can react to the destruction of her home, she is transported back to Oz, where her three friends (Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man) have disappeared. She meets a charming man made of marshmallows who cant quite think for himself, a tiny china doll princess whose bossiness is a cover for her fragility, and a tugboat with as many personalities as he has pieces. Dorothy must help this group band together against the Jester, a wicked new villain who believes that all of Oz should be under his control. The movie features the voices of Lea Michele, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer and Patrick Stewart.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Trailer – Jeremy Renner & Gemma Arterton take on bad magic
If all had gone to the original plan, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters would have hit cinemas last spring, but it got delayed (some have suggested because it’s not that great, others have said that movie was waiting for Jeremy Renner to get more famous). Now it’s set for release early next year, and the first trailer has arrived, giving us a look at the movie, which sees Renner and Gemma Arterton as grown up versions of the fairy tale characters, who now work as bounty hunters tracking down witches.
Rust & Bone UK Trailer – Marion Cotillard teams up with the director of A Prophet
Rust & Bone got a lot of praise at Cannes, which perhaps isn’t too unexpected seeing as it teams up the wonderful Marion Cotillard with director Jacques Audiard, who astounded world cinema audiences with A Prophet and The Beat That My Heart Skipped. The movie is about two people from very different worlds seeking redemption in each other. Marion Cotillard plays Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. Put in charge of his young son, Alain has come from Belgium to Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alains bond with Stephanie grows deeper after she suffers a horrible accident, bringing the two together once more. Rust and Bone is released in cinemas on 2nd November 2012.
A Liar’s Autobiography Trailer – Ambitious animated take on Python Graham Chapman’s life
Monty Python’s Graham Chapman was a bit of a unique character, so it is perhaps fitting that he’s made a new movie, 23 years after he died. It’s the sort of silliness he’d have loved. The animated film is based on his recently uncovered reading of his memoir, A Liar’s Autobiography. The movie, directed by Terry Jones’ son, also features the voices of the other Pythons (except Eric Idle), with 14 different animation companies working on various parts of the film to tell the story of the great comedy performer. It looks suitably anarchic and could well be a fascinating ride, as Chapman was certainly an interesting guy.
Seven Psychopaths Red Band Trailer – Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken & Sam Rockwell get criminal
Written and Directed by Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh, the comedy Seven Psychopaths follows a struggling screenwriter (Colin Farrell) who inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends (Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell) kidnap a gangsters (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu. The movie co-stars Abbie Cornish, Tom Waits, Olga Kurylenko and Zeljko Ivanek. No UK release date is currently set, but enjoy the new red band trailer.
Love & Honor Trailer – Liam Hemsworth goes AWOL for love
I’m not entirely sure what it is, but in the trailer for Love & Honor, Liam Hemsworth is the least soldiery looking solider I’ve ever seen, but the movie could still be an entertaining romance. He plays Dalton Joiner, a young soldier in Vietnam who gets dumped by his hometown girlfriend Jane. He vows to sneak home during the war to win her back. His best buddy, Mickey Wright, never one to miss out on a wild time, decides to go with him. They must get back to America, change her mind and return to the war without getting caught. These best friends end up learning the true meaning of love, honour and commitment. The movie should open later this year.
