Win Red Sun On Blu-ray! – The restored Charles Bronson movie could be yours

18th October 2015 By Tim Isaac

To celebrate the release of Red Sun – coming to newly restored DVD & Blu-ray 19th October – we have a copy on Blu-ray to giveaway!

Red Sun is one of the wildest, and weirdest westerns ever made, where a cowboy and a samurai team up on a revenge mission.

Hollywood hard man Charles Bronson from Once Upon a Time in the West and The Dirty Dozen plays The Gunfighter. French crime film superstar Alain Delon from Le Samourai and Le Cercle Rouge plays The Outlaw. Sex symbol Ursula Andress, famous for that iconic beach scene in Dr No plays The Tigress. And Japanese screen legend Toshiro Mifune from Seven Samurai and Throne of Blood plays The Samurai! Together they were billed as ‘The greatest fighting force the West has ever known.’ It’s an audacious line up that works beautifully.

It’s also rated by no less an authority than Quentin Tarantino as one of the best spaghetti westerns ever made, alongside the likes of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars.

Ratchet & Clank Trailer – The videogame turns animated movie

17th October 2015 By Tim Isaac

Turning videogames into movies doesn’t exactly have a great history, but when it’s an animated movie, there’s a chance it’ll be okay – although that fact it’s an independent production should give us a little pause.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A CG-animated movie based on the iconic PlayStation video game. Two unlikely heroes struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy “lombax” who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.’

The film will be in cinemas early next year.

New Kill Your Friends Trailer – Nicholas Hoult takes the music business to murderous levels

17th October 2015 By Tim Isaac

Nicholas Hoult leaves zombies, mutants and Mad Max behind for a while to head into the music business with the upcoming Kill Your Friends, which has release a new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When the road to success is littered with losers and even your closest colleagues are desperate for you to fail, what would you do to make it to the top?

‘London, 1997; the British music industry is on a winning streak. Britpop bands Blur, Oasis, Radiohead rule the airwaves and Cool Britannia is in full swing. 27-year-old hit chasing A&R man Steven Stelfox (Nicholas Hoult) is slashing and burning his way through the music business, a world where ‘no one knows anything’ and where careers are made and broken by chance and the fickle tastes of the general public – “Yeah, those animals”.

‘Fuelled by greed, ambition and inhuman quantities of drugs, Stelfox searches for his next hit record amid a relentless orgy of self-gratification. Created by an industry that demands success at any price, as the hits dry up and the industry begins to change, Stelfox takes the concept of ‘killer tunes’ to a murderous new level in a desperate attempt to salvage his career.

‘Kill Your Friends is a dark, satirical and hysterically funny evisceration of the Nineties music business. A time and place populated by frauds, charlatans and bluffers; where ambition is a higher currency than talent, and where it seems anything can be achieved – as long as you want it badly enough.’

Kill Your Friends will be in UK cinemas on November 6th.

Joan Littlewood’s cracking Cockney comedy drama Sparrows Can’t sing is a sixties gem starring Barbara Windsor, Bafta nominated for her lead role, and a host of now familiar faces making their screen debuts, in a film that would pave the way for the realist, semi-improvised work of the likes of Mike Leigh and Ken Loach.
