28th February 2012 By Tim Isaac

This Means War hits cinemas this Friday, March 2nd, and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox has sent us a couple of goodies bags containing great movie merchandise from the movie.

The film stars Tom Hardy & Chris Pine as two of the world’s top secret agents, who are best friends and never let anything come between them – until they inadvertently fall for the same woman (Reese Witherspoon). Soon it’s all-out war, as the two spies battle each other with high-tech surveillance, advanced tactics, and an arsenal capable of bringing down a small country.

Our goodie bags contain a This Means War t-shirt, a rather natty notebook and a phone screen protector (to ensure it doesn’t get scratched when you’re using all your CIA spying skills to snare the woman or man you love). If you’d like to try and win one of the two This Means War goodie bags that we’ve got to give away, sign in to the site below (or click here to register) and answer the multiple choice question (see below for more details on how to enter). WIN! The Shrine On DVD! – Two copies of the horror flick to give away

27th February 2012 By Tim Isaac

From award-winning filmmaker Jon Knautz, writer-director of the cult hit horror-comedy Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, comes The Shrine, “a wonderfully eerie slice of Lovecraftian horror” (BeyondHollywood.com) that sets itself up as a traditional genre entry before brilliantly and unexpectedly pulling the rug from beneath the viewer with a killer twist. And we’ve got two copies of the film in DVD to give away in this comp!

Starring Aaron Ashmore (Smallville; Veronica Mars), Cindy Sampson (Supernatural; Reaper) and Meghan Heffern (The Fog; Chloe), The Shrine has been hailed as “true-blue horror all the way… uncompromising and aggressively nasty” (FearNet.com) and gained plaudits for its “great story arc, solid writing and acting, and a last act that’ll blow you away” (AnythingHorror.com).

When a young American goes missing in Poland while backpacking around Europe, ambitious journalist Carmen (Sampson) links his disappearance to a number of similar events that have occurred over the years in and around the remote rural village of Alvaina. With the US and Polish authorities showing little interest in the case, Carmen decides to investigate the story herself, hoping for a scoop that will forward her career as a writer.

She convinces her photographer boyfriend, Marcus (Ashmore), and her young intern at the newspaper, Sara (Heffern), to join her in trying to uncover the truth and the trio travels to Alvaina to make some initial enquiries. On arrival at the village they immediately attract the unwelcome attention of the hostile locals who order them to leave the area. Fearing for their safety Marcus is ready to give up and go home, but Carmen and Sara become intrigued by and drawn to a mysterious fog hanging over the nearby woods. On entering the mist, they come across what appears to be an ancient statue – a discovery that leads them on the path to a revelation far more terrifying than anything they could possibly imagine.

A solid supernatural chiller that recalls elements of The Exorcist, Jacob’s Ladder and The Evil Dead, The Shrine is an unexpected gem of a horror film and boasts a Grammy nominated (for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media) score by award-winning composer Ryan Shore (Stan Helsing; Numb; The Girl Next Door).

The Shrine (cert. 15) will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by Arrow Films on 27th February 2012, but if you’d like to try and win one of the two copies of The Shrine DVD that we’ve got to give away, sign in to the site below (or click here to register) and answer the multiple choice question (see below for more details on how to enter). The competition closes on March 10th, 2012, so get answering and good luck!

LEGO Top Ten Movie Moments – An A-level student recreates the public’s favourite flicks in brick

23rd February 2012 By Tim Isaac

While a lot of companies have been pretty sniffy about new media, afraid of the preceived lack of control it gives them over their products, however Lego has embraced the fact people love making stop-motion Lego movies. Now the company has got 17-year-old A-Level student Harry Bossert to recreate the UK’s favourite movie moments in brick, ranging from Indiana Jones to ET. Currently studying drama at the Brit School, Bossert has been producing LEGO videos since 2007 after seeing a LEGO video on YouTube. His so called ‘brickfilms’ are a big hit on the video-sharing website and his version of Parry Gripp’s Megaphone was shown at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in California last year. Take a look at his take on great movie moments below.

Something ancient and evil is alive in the darkness beneath the Blackwood Mansion. When young Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison) arrives in Rhode Island to visit her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) at the Victorian mansion they are restoring, she already feels like an outsider and her ornate new home seems a cold and unwanted prison.

Finding comfort and escape in her solitary exploration of the property, and despite the warnings of the caretaker Mr. Harris (Jack Thompson), Sally embarks on an adventure that leads to the discovery of a hidden basement, undisturbed since the mysterious disappearance a century earlier of the mansion’s builder, famed nature illustrator Emerson Blackwood. Once the private studio of Blackwood, the dark and dank underground chamber houses the secrets of the past of this unstable and unholy place, and perhaps something even more sinister.
