Our Score

Tim Burton is arguably one of the most visceral and imaginative filmmakers around, whose trademark obsession with all things morbid and weird has made him an iconic director. It’s just a shame that most of his recent work hasn’t hit the heights set by Beetlejuice (1988) or Edward Scissorhands (1990), and the last film of his that I really enjoyed was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street back in 2007.

His style isn’t for all and his Planet of the Apes (2001) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) remakes are best forgotten. But I was curious to see this latest film to see if it captured his trademark macabre magic, or was yet another movie where it appears he was just a director for hire. [Read more…]

The Legend of Tarzan IMAX Trailer – Take a fresh look at Alexander Skarsgard in the jungle

6th June 2016 By Tim Isaac

tarzan-main-poster-slideAfter quite a few sequels have bombed this summer, Warner will be hoping the big bet they’ve taken on people being interested in a new Tarzan movie will be lining up next month for The Legend Of Tarzan. They’ll also be hoping it wasn’t a mistake to have director David Yates doing post-production on both this film and Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them at the same time, with the movies hitting cinemas only fourth months apart.

To give us a fresh taste of the film, a three-minute IMAX trailer has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the action adventure “The Legend of Tarzan,” starring Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s “True Blood”) as the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

‘The film also stars Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” the “Captain America” films), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot”), Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “Gladiator”), with Oscar winner Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), and two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained”).

‘It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.’

The Legend Of Tarzan will be in cinemas in July. [Read more…]

New The Legend of Tarzan Trailer – Alexander Skarsgard heads for the jungle

18th March 2016 By Tim Isaac

legenda-of-tarzan-poster-slideMany believe Warner Bros. have taken a big gamble with The Legend Of Tarzan, not necessarily because of the subject, but because they’ve ended up with director David Yates doing post-production on two of their biggest movies at the same time. He’s working on both this and the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them, with the two films due out only four months apart.

However, even with the director doing double duty, the new trailer certainly make Tarzan seem intriguing, as well as showing once again how good Alexander Skarsgard looks with his shirt off.
