Cage And Rourke Going To Marble City – And Mickey’s back for Sin City 2 as well

18th May 2012 By Tim Isaac

Mickey Rourke has a lot to thank Sin City for, as it massively reinvigorated his career. However until now we haven’t known whether he’d be back as Marv in the upcoming sequel, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. However The Playlist confirms that not only will Rourke be back, but Jessica Alba will return for the film too. It starts shooting soon, with an October 2013 release now set – and it’ll be in 3D too!

It’s not the only Rourke news, as Coming Soon reports that he’s also signed up for Marble City, as has Nicolas Cage. Marble City has been doing the rounds in Hollywood for quite a few years now, but it finally looks like it’s moving forward, with Azumi and Midnight Meat Train director Ryuhei Kitamura helming.

Apparently, ‘Marble City takes us on a journey of a newly released prisoner who seeks revenge on those that put him inside. It is the story of a man who finds his inner peace through vengeance.’

Producer Jeremy Wall says, “The film is a high action and close combat fighting picture. We will bring a dynamic flair to the screen with this director and story. We are delighted to be attracting the highest caliber of actor in the business to work with us in this venture, namely Oscar winning actor Nicolas Cage and Oscar winning actor Mickey Rourke. let the battle begin.” Umm, we know a producer’s job is to big up a project, but giving Mickey Rourke an Oscar he hasn’t won is going a bit far.

The ‘Kill Bill meets Drive’ movie starts shooting in August.

Blanchett & Wasikowska On For Carol – They sign up for the Patricia Highsmith adaptation

18th May 2012 By Tim Isaac

Cate Blanchett must like novelist Patricia Highsmith, as she’s already starred in an adaptation of the author’s The Talented Mr. Ripley and now she’s taking on another of her books, as she and Mia Wasikowska are set to star in a new take Highsmith’s novel Carol (aka The Price of Salt).

Directed by BAFTA winning John Crowley (Intermission, Boy A), with Phyllis Nagy (Mrs Harris) on scripting duties, Carol is a love story about pursuit, betrayal and passion that follows the burgeoning relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One, a girl in her 20s working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, and the other, a wife trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage desperate to break free but fearful of losing her daughter in the process.

The film is currently looking for international sales at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with filming set to start in February 2013 in London and New York.

Producer Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley commented, “We are thrilled to be working with Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska, two of the most talented actors working today, in this striking adaptation of one of the 20th century’s most iconic writers, Patricia Highsmith. To be re-united with highly talented individuals, director John Crowley and writer Phylis Nagy is a testament to the quality of the project. We are delighted to have such a gifted team on board.”

18th May 2012 By Tim Isaac

It’s just a couple weeks until Prometheus hits, and a rather explosive new international poster has debuted, which is rather cool. It’s also nicely unusual in putting female characters front and centre in a sci-fi flick. The film hits the UK on June 1st.

New Magic Mike UK Trailer – Fresh look at the Channing Tatum stripper flick

18th May 2012 By Tim Isaac

There’s been a lot of interest in Magic Mike, and not just for the prurient voyeurism of seeing the likes of Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer playing strippers. It’s also because it’s a rare case of Hollywood looking at men as sexual objects in a way that’s normally reserved for women. But let’s not get too sociological, as the intrigue is mainly about seeing actors gets their stripper on.

Here’s the synopsis, ‘To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women. What’s his secret? He’s a male stripper, and when the kid dives headlong into Magic Mike’s world, his mad dancing skills and hunger for excitement make for an unforgettable summer…Sexy, funny and shocking, this film is a hedonistic thrill ride with a powerful undertow. A razor sharp cast – led by top liner Channing Tatum in a career-defining turn as the titular Magic Mike devours the up-to-the moment freight train of a script, and the result will be relentlessly entertaining and sure to be one of the most talked about films of the year…… and let’s not forget the price-of-admission dancing sequences…’ It hits UK cinemas on July 13th.
