For several years there’s been talk of a continuation of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, with a new set of female thieves being drafted in. While it got trapped in pre-production (not least due to producer Jerry Weintraub’s death), it’s now moving forward again, with The Playlist reporting that Cate Blanchett is in talks to star.
If she does, she would join Sandra Bullock in movie, and together they would become the equivalent of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and his confidante, Brad Pitt’s Rusty Ryan. There’s also been talk of Jennifer Lawrence joining the movie, and while her representatives have denies it, that may be just due to scheduling issues that they could yet sort out. It wouldn’t be too shocking if she did sign on, as she’s previously worked with the spin-off’s director, Gary Ross, on The Hunger Games.
It’s believed the movie will centre on eight female thieves (the working title is Ocean’s Ocho), and Bullock’s character may be Danny Ocean’s sister. It’s not clear when it might start shooting.
