A few days ago it was revealed that director Juan Antonio Bayona had left the sequel to World War Z, apparently due to other commitments. Now we may know what that commitment is, although it’s something new rather than a prior obligation, as Deadline reports that he is now the frontrunner to helm Jurassic World 2.
While Colin Trevorrow was initially going to return to helm the Jurassic World follow up, he’s since taken the job of helming Star Wars: Episode IX and has laso made The Book Of Henry. With Universal eying a June 22, 2018 release date for the dino pic, they need to find a replacement helmer fairly soon. Although no deal is in place with Bayona, it appears he’s now favourite for the role.
The director made his directorial debut with the excellent The Orphanage in 2007, followed by The Impossible in 2012. His next film, A Monster Calls, is set out later this year.
