Some love Lasse Hallstrom’s brand of sweet (sometimes sickly) movie such as Safe Haven, The Cider House Rules and Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, while others hate them. Now he’s got a new one, with Deadline reporting that he’ll helm The Hundred Foot Journey for DreamWorks, based on Richard C. Morais 2010 novel.
It’s also suggested that Helen Mirren may take on one of the central roles, although she hasn’t signed up yet. She would play Madame Mallory, the owner of a three-Michelin-star restaurant in France. All is going well for her until Hassan Haji and his family movie from India to France and open up a Indian restaurant just 100 feet from Mallorys restaurant.
The town adores this new addition to the culinary scene, which initially a war between the eating establishments, until Mallory relents and mentors Haji on his culinary trek, taking him to Paris.
If it all sounds a little like Chocolat-esque, it shouldn’t surprise you that Hallstrom also directed that movie.
