An adaptation of Judith Viorst’s classic children’s book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day has been in the works for a couple of years, but it’s had a bit of trouble getting to the screen, with 20th Century Fox dropping it and then Disney picking it up.
Now THR reports that Day Jennifer Garner is in talks to join the cast, which already has Steve Carell attached to star (he’s been signed up for a year now).
Viorst’s story is about a young boy called Alexander who wakes up with gum in his hair, and finds his day getting progressively worse. When he makes a wish that his family could experience his suffering, the wish comes true. Steve Carell is playing Alexander’s father, with Jennifer Garner set to play his mother.
Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt) is directing from a screenplay by Lisa Cholodenko and Rob Leiber. The current plan is to start shooting this autumn.
