Pitch Perfect was a surprise hit, grossing over $110 million worldwide on a $17 million budget. It’s not too much of a surprise therefore that Universal is planning a sequel. Now the studio has been talking about their future schedule at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, confirming that Pitch Perfect 2 is officially in the works. and will be released in 2015.
Kay Cannon, who wrote the screenplay for Pitch Perfect, has been brought on to write the sequel. Pitch Perfect starred Anna Kendrick as a college freshman, who transforms a rather old-fashioned all-girls A cappella singing group into a modern singing sensation. Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, and Alexis Knapp also starred in the original.
As yet, none of the original cast members have been confirmed for the sequel, although back in December, Skylar Astin revealed that a sequel was being talked about and that, “I think that I am willing to do anything. I like to collaborate. If my voice will be heard, than I will do some research and think about it. There are definitely times where I am listening to the radio, and I think, ‘That would be awesome. I would love to sing that.’ It’s this weird karaoke fantasy that I might someday get to live out on the big screen… The music landed so perfectly when it came out the first time, I can’t imagine, if the same people are involved, that lightning won’t strike twice. I will sing whatever they want me to sing.”
Universal has also confirmed they’re planning to release the sequel to Snow White & The Huntsman in 2015, and also that another Bourn movie is in the works, although there’s no news on when we might see that.
