There’s been a huge amount of interest in the last few days in a sci-fi short by special effects whiz music video director Stephan Zlotescu, called True Skin, which has excited execs with its great look and the possibility of creating an exciting sci-fi film on a relatively small budget.
After a bit of a bidding war, THR reports Warner Bros. has now quickly acquired the feature rights to True Skin, less than a week after it debuted online. David Heyman (Harry Potter) is attached to produce through his Heyday Films banner.
The short film takes place in a future where everyone is augmenting their bodies, and those who don’t find themselves falling behind the rest of society. The story centres on a man who finds a black market chip in Bangkok that slowly turns him into a robot. Soon thereafter, he becomes pursued by shady organisations who are interested in the technology he’s unwittingly in possession of. The feature will throw the protagonist into a race against time, both to evade his captors and to save the last shreds of his humanity.
Stephan Zlotescu will direct, with Jeffrey Clifford, Scott Glassgold, and Raymond Brothers producing alongside David Heyman. The studio is hoping to make a low-budget high-concept hit in the same vein as Fox’s Chronicle.
