For a couple of years now there’s been a project floating around Hollywood looking at Jackie Kennedy in the dark says just after her husband, JFK’s, assassination. However while people like the script, it’s had difficulty getting momentum to make it to the screen.
Fox Searchlight is shepherding the movie and Deadline reports that it hopes to move forward with the film by luring Natalie Portman to play the juicy role of Jackie. Portman starred in Searchlight’s Black Swan, so she already has a good relationship with the studio. The actress is reportedly intrigued by the script, penned by Noah Oppenheim, but is reluctant to sign on until a director is selected.
Portman’s Black Swan helmer, Darren Aronosky, was attached at one point, with Rachel Weisz set to star, although that fell apart when Weisz and Aronosky’s relationship ended (she’s now married to Daniel Craig). Even Spielberg apparently thought about making the film, so there must be something pretty interesting about the script.
