If you weren’t quite fed up of the influx of zombie movies yet, Kill Zombie! should be the one to push you over the edge. It’s by no means an awful film, but this Dutch attempt at zombie-comedy fusion lacks originality and laughs to the point that it’s pretty difficult to even enjoy without comparing it to much better films that have come before.
Aziz is an office drone whose having a pretty bad day, first his boss fires him and then his wacky brother’s antics land them both in the slammer for the night. Things go from bad to worse however when a Russian space station crash lands in West Amsterdam and infects the populace with a virus that turns them into a snarling, slobbering zombies. When they receive a cry for help from the other side of the city, the brothers join forces with a hot policewoman for a rescue mission that sees them doing battle with the legion of the undead.
If it sounds like a cheap knockoff of Shaun of the Dead then you won’t be too surprised by the film playing out exactly like Edgar Wright’s opus – only without the charm, humour and hilarious characters. Instead everyone’s personality is grating, the script is lazy and the humour is of tumbleweed calibre.
Again, it’s not that Kill Zombie! is particularly bad, it’s just that there’s no need for it. We’ve got enough zombie available and nobody needs a half baked Dutch retread of the UK’s most cherished one.
Final verdict: An unoriginal slice of undead crap that will only make you dislike the current barrage of zombie movies even more. Avoid.
