While there are still rumblings that the eight month delay on the release of GI Joe 2 was more about problems with the movie than the stated aim of converting it to 3D, it doesn’t seem to have put producers off picking director Jon M. Chu for another toy-to-film project.
THR reports that Step Up 2 and 3 helmer Chu is currently in talks for Masters Of The Universe, which will completely reboot the franchise for the big screen compared to the disastrous 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren. The film will be based on a script by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch, entitled Grayskull, although not too much is known about the plot. Hopefully it’ll stay more true to toy and 80s cartoon roots, about Prince Adam of Eternia, who has a sword that transforms him into the musclebound hero, He-Man.
Chu is currently working on Justin Biebers concert tour and overseeing the conversion of GI Joe 2. It isn’t clear when the Masters Of The Universe movie might shoot.
