While the news was filled in 2010 with reports about the devastating impact of the oil gushing from under the Deepwater Horizon oil platform, you could have been forgiven for forgetting that the reason the oil was erupting from the ocean floor was because of an explosion that left 11 men dead and 17 more injured.
Last year Summit revealed they were working on a movie about the disaster, and now Deadline say that former stuntman Ric Roman Waugh (In The Shadows, Felon) is in talks to direct the film, which will look into the rig’s terrible end. The movie will be based on The New York Times article Deepwater Horizons Final Hour, by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul, which charts exactly what went wrong, including the bravery of the crew in the minutes leading up to the disaster, as well as the attempts of 100 others to stay alive.
It isn’t clear when the movie might shoot, but hopefuly all involved will have their tasteful hats on when making this, as the disaster is still a fresh one.
