Ice Age: Continental Drift has topped the US box office, nabbing $46 million on its opening weekend. That’s not as good as the third Ice Age movie, but about on par with the first two, suggesting it should continue to draw in the punters over the coming weeks.
However its not in the US that Ice Age plays big, as the franchise has always been far more popular internationally than in America. That pattern is continuing, as outside the US, the film has already taken $339 million, so Fox already has another hit on their hands.
Ice Age 4 was the only new film in the top 10, which was good news for The Amazing Spider-man, as it only dropped a relatively mild 45% from its opening weekend and passed the $200 million mark. It’ll have more competition next weekend when Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas, but the Spidey reboot is undoubtedly a hit.
