20th Century Fox has inked a huge seven figure deal for the rights to Gillian Flynn’s New York Times bestseller Gone Girl, with Bruna Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon producing for Pacific Standard, according to Deadline.
The story follows a woman who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary, and all signs point to her husband being the killer. The marriage has been marked by arguments, cheating and conflict, but has the husband really killed his wife? Gillian Flynn is taking on screenwriting duties herself (although normally what happens is an author takes the first crack, but someone else wwill do the donkey work later one). The author currently has three bestsellers on the list all at once, and has two other movie deals currently in the works.
It is not known at this time if Reese Witherspoon is setting up the project for herself to star in, although it seems likely. The current plan is to have the movie in cinemas in 2014.
