Actors Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet have joined the cast of The Mortal Instruments, which Sony Pictures is hoping can soak up some of the Twilight dollars after that franchise ends later this year, according to Variety.
Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) is set to direct the film, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s best-selling young adult novel series about Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a young woman living in New York City, who learns that she is a descendant of the Shadowhunters, a group of warriors who protect the earth from demons. Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet will play the villainous duo Pangborn and Blackwell. Jamie Campbell Bower and Jemima West are also set to star.
Production is expected to begin on August 15 in Toronto, with a release set for next year.
