Have your say about cinema

Michael Goldenberg Writing Wonder Woman – The Princess may finally get a stand-alone movie

7th June 2012 By Tim Isaac

While Batman and Superman have had numerous movies, it’s slightly odd that the character who is probably DC’s other biggest propety has never lit up the big screen. However now it appears the company is once more looking to adapt Wonder Woman for a cinematic outing.

The news comes in a Variety report about DC’s plans for a Justice League movie (which we reported on yesterday), which drops in the info that Michael Goldenberg has been hired to write a Wonder Woman script. There’s no news on the direction the film might take or if it will specifically be linked into the plans for Justice League.

Part of the problem with Wonder Woman is that some elements of it may potentially seem a bit silly for the big screen, such as her invisible plane, Amazon origins and how her abilities work. There’s also the fact Hollywood is still shy about female action heroes. However with such a long-standing, popular character, they should be able to overcome that, and perhaps Goldenberg, who’s co-wrote Green Lantern, is the man to do it.

The Variety report also mentions that Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green are still hard at work on a Flash screenplay for Greg Berlanti to possibly direct. And of course, after Chris Nolan finishes his Batman trilogy, it’s likely DC will look to reboot that character. It certainly seems the company has realised how far it is behind the curveball compared to Marvel and is doing something about it.
