Back in the 1980s, Glenn Close made her name playing Albert Nobbs off-Broadway, and now almost 30 years later she’s finally managed to get it to the big screen with her in the lead role. She play plays a woman passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Some 30 years after donning men’s clothing, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making. Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson and Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Janet McTeer, Brenda Fricker and Pauline Collins also star in a movie many expect to give Close her sixth Oscar nomination. There’s little doubt she makes a surprisingly good man in what could be a fascinating film. No UK release date is currently set.
