It seems that we’re supposed to once more forget about Roman Polanski’s child-shagging, fugitive status now that he’s been freed from his house arrest and just concentrate on the fact he’s a master filmmaker. After some successful festival screenings, his new movie, Carnage, is now preparing for its US release and so a fresh trailer has arrived. Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly star in what is essentially a four-hander that follows the aftermath of a showdown between two 11-year-old kids in a local playground. The parents of the ‘victim’ invite the parents of the ‘bully’ to their apartment to sort if out. Cordial banter gradually develops a razor-sharp edge as all four parents reveal their laughable contradictions and grotesque prejudices. None of them will escape the ensuing carnage. It’s all a little Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, and it’ll be interesting to see if Polanski can handle a small intimate cast as well as he did with Death And The Maiden (which was mainly just three people). It’s set for UK release on February 3rd.
