After Marion Cotillard won an Oscar for La Vie En Rose, it initially looked like she might disappear back off into French film obscurity. Thanks to Inception however she’s now in-demand in Hollywood, and will be seen soon in Contagion and The Dark Knight Rises.
However it looks like she’s planning to return to her French roots with Rust And Bone for the director of A Prophet, Jacques Audiard, according to Variety. The film will be based on short story collection by Canadian author Craig Davidson. Variety describes the script as ‘a mix of suspense and love’, although it isn’t clear if it will take on several of Davidson’s tales or just one of them. Either way it’s not likely to be a jolly film, as the tales are about a savage world populated by fighting dogs, prizefighters, sex addicts, and gamblers. The title tale in the collection involves a boxer with a broken hand whose fights get ever more desperate.
