In recent years John Malkovich has specialised in scenery-chewing in the likes of Transformers: Dark of The Moon, Red and Eragon, and it appears a few more sets will be masticated in Warm Bodies, as Variety reports that Malkovich is in final talks for that movie.
Warm Bodies follows an existentially-tormented zombie called R (Nicholas Hoult) who falls for the girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) of one of his victims and decides to protect her from his brain-eating brethren as he begins to reconnect with his dormant humanity. This leads other zombies, including Rob Cordrry’s M, to follow his lead.
Malkovich meanwhile will be General Grigio, the leader of one of the few remaining human strongholds, who’s obsessed with wiping zombies off the face of the planet. He’s also the father of Teresa Palmer’s character.
Wackness and 50/50 helmer Jonathan Levine (The Wackness) is writing and directing the undead romance, which is based on a novel by Isaac Marion. Shooting begins later this month.
