As it gets ready to shoot in the next few weeks, RIPD is firming up the cast who will join Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in the comic book adaptation. In the last 24-hours it’s been revealed that Mike O’Malley, Marisa Miller and James Hong have all signed up to be in the movie.
Model Marisa Miller and Hollywood’s default aging Asian man, James Hong, have similar roles according to THR. Hong plays Grandpa Chen, the avatar of Ryan Reynolds’ character, while Marisa Miller plays Jeff Bridges’ avatar. The story centers around a group of cops killed in the line of duty who form the Rest in Peace Department, a unit of ghosts who bring unwilling souls into the afterlife. Reynolds is a newly killed cop, who agrees to serve in RIPD so he can investigate his own murder. The avatars represent how each character appears when they are on Earth.
Mike O’Malley, who’s probably best known for My Name Is Earl and Glee, will play ‘Elliot, a kind of ghost’ according to Deadline, although exactly what ‘a kind of ghost’ means isn’t clear.
