Jennifer Garner has been attached to Better Living Through Chemistry for quite a while, but as she’s currently up the duff, she’s had to drop out and will be replaced by Olivia Wilde, according to Variety. It’s not the first cast swap the movie has had either, as only last month Sam Rockwell replaced Jeremy Renner due to scheduling issues.
The story is about a pharmacist (Sam Rockwell) stuck in a dead-end marriage, who starts an affair with a trophy wife (Olivia Wilde). When the pharmacist introduces his new lover to prescription drugs, things spiral out of control as they hatch a plot to kill her husband. Michelle Monaghan will portray the pharmacist’s wife while Judi Dench will serve as the narrator.
Geoff Moore and David Posamentier will direct from their own original screenplay, which made the Black List last year. Production is scheduled to start sometime this fall, on location in Maryland.
Olivia Wilde could do with a proper hit, as it seemed she was going to be huge, but TRON: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens and The Change-Up have all underperformed compared to expectation, so she needs a full-on success to retain her Hollywood momentum. Perhaps this movie will be it.
