Although he’s in the middle of shooting The Dark Knight, the speculation about what Christian Bale’s going to do after Batman has already started, even if Bale is unlikely to decide himself until the Dark Knight shoot is over. According to Variety though, he’s got quite a few films that have piqued his interest.
Projects such as A Star Is Born, the Oldboy remake, Out of the Furnace, and Gold are reportedly in the mix, along with other movies he’s already been rumoured for, such as Darren Aronofsky’s Noah.
In A Star Is Born, which is set to be directed by Clint Eastwood, he would play a fading star with a drinking problem who helps to launch a young starlets (Beyonce Knowles) career. Spike Lee is eyeing him as the villain in the Oldboy remake, and while not a vast amount is known about Gold, it’s been described as an adventure in the vein of The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, and is likely to be directed by Michael Mann. Out Of The Furnace meanwhile is set in the 80s and and sees a man trying to go straight being dragged back into a life of crime when he discovers his brother has been murdered. The final option is Noah, the big budget take on the bibilical tale of the flood.
Bale isn’t officially attached to any of these projects yet and isn’t likely to make any firm decision until November.
It also seem that while a few months ago the actor was circling a role in The Last Photograph, he has since left that project, andas we reported earlier this week, he’s reportedly signed up for a new movie with Terrence Malick. So while there aren’t many major franchises here that he can use to replace Batman, he’s certainly got a lot of choices.
