There’s a bit of Scandinavia meets America going on in Henry-Alex Rubin’s Indie drama Disconnect, with Variety reporting that Sweden’s Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Michael Nyqvist (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), will star alongside the US’s Frank Grillo (Warrior) and Colin Ford (We Bought A Zoo). And Britain may be getting in on the action too, as Adrea Riseborough is also circling the movie.
Rubin, who’s probably best known for the documentary Murderball, will helm from a script by Andrew Stern (Return To Me), which follows an ensemble of characters trying to deal with modern communications and the Internet. Skarsgard will play a former Marine who’s struggling to make ends meet and is emotionally cut off from his wife, causing him to seek an affair on the net. Nyqvist would be a man who Skarsgard and his wife suspect of stealing their identity.
Grillo and Ford will be father and son, with the dad an overprotective computer safety expert who’s keen to protect his offspring from the dangers of the online world. The son meanwhile is dealing with his own emotional turmoil by chatting to a troubled teen under the guise of a teenage girl.
Finally there’s Riseborough, who’d be a TV reporter who’s annoyed by having to cover lightweight stories and so go after a piece about a young male model who poses nude online.
Shooting should start next month on what could be a pretty interesting movie.
