The Last Exorcism was a big success, grossing over $65 million on a budget of less than $2 million. It’s not surprising that they’d want a sequel – although there are a few problems, not least the title, which seemed to suggest this was the last there could be (and if you’ve seen the film, returning characters mat be an issue).
However with the smell of money in their nostrils, the producers behind the 2010 ‘found footage’ horror are moving forward with a follow-up according to THR, and have set writer Damien Chazelle to tackle the script. The Last Exorcism centered on an Evangelical preacher, played by Patrick Fabian, who, after years of performing exorcisms, decides to allow a documentary crew to film the last one he plans to perform, in order to show his work is a fraud, but gets far more than he bargained for with the Sweetzer family.
Production on the sequel is slated to begin this fall, although there’s no info on the plot for the new movie, or even if it will follow the same ‘found footage’ format.
