Djimon Hounsou is a class act who really deserves to get more high profile roles than he does, but while he perhaps isn’t quite as famous as he ought to be, it seems he’s scored himself a part in Alex Proyas’ big budget take on Milton’s Paradise Lost.
Hounsou will star opposite Bradley Cooper’s Lucifer and Benjamin Walker’s Archangel Michael as Abdiel, the Angel of Death. Abdiel tries to warn God about Lucifer’s defection (who is unhappy about having to bow down to humanity), and becomes part of the epic war between Heaven and Hell that follows. The screenplay, which has been worked on by Stuart Hazeldine, Byron Willinger, Philip de Blasi, Lawrence Kasdan, and most recently Ryan Condal, is based on the 17th Century poem of the same name although with a bit of help from modern special effects and sensibilities.
Paradise Lost is being produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. and will begin shooting before the end of the year. (Source: Variety)
