It seems everyone in Hollywood is keen to get their clothes off for director Steven Soderbergh. Thankfully though he’s not running some sort of modern version of the casting couch, but planning a movie about strippers called Magic Mike, partly based on Channing Tatum’s experience as a teen stripper.
Last week Tatum and Alex Pettyfer were joined by Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Bomer, and now Joe Manganiello, Riley Keough and possibly Jessica Biel are in the movie too. Tatum is set to play the title character, a male stripper who takes Alex Pettyfer’s newbie de-rober under his wing. McConaughey is the former stripper owner of a club, while Bomer is a fellow stripper. Also getting his clothes off for cash will be True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, whose character EW reports will be called Big Dick Richie (which suggests the actor is going to need to deliver on the promise).
The Riley Keough (daughter of Lisa Marie Presley) news comes from E!Online, who say she’ll be a stripper who also dates Pettyfer’s character, but is a whole mess of trouble. Lindsay Lohan was also apprently in the final running for the role, and with her background would have seemed to be perfect, but Keough got the part.
The Biel news however is a lot weaker and it appears it’s already been denied. Comingsoon had the news she was in the film, but Justin Kroll from Variety quickly wrote on Twitter, ‘News recently broke that Jessica Biel may join the cast of Magic Mike. Just been told she passed on the project.’ So it seems she wants to keep her clothes on, but if she does end up signing on, remember you heard it here first!
The film will start shooting in September in Florida.
