At D23, Disney’s Annual convention where they big up their upcoming movies (it’s the House Of Mouse’s own version of Comic-Con), they took the opportunity to announce two new Pixar movies. We knew they were coming because Disney had already set the dates, but now we know what they are – well, sort of.
The first of these new animated movies will be directed by Bob Peterson, the man who co-directed Up for Disney and Pixar back in 2009. While it doesn’t have a title yet, the synopsis from Disney says, ‘What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Petersons hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.’ The concept pic shown in the convention hall apparently showed a dinosaur with a child sat on its neck – so it appears people and dino will be living side-by-side. It is already set for a November 27th, 2013 release in the US.
Peterson has apparently been obsessed with dinos since his youth, after seeing Disney built animatronic dinos at a World’s Fair as as a child.
The second untitled project is even more enigmatic, as its currently known as ‘The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind’, and will be helmed by Up’s other Oscar-winning director, Pete Docter (with Ronnie Del Carmen co-directed). Here’s the synopsis: ‘Pixar takes audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. From director Pete Docter (Up, Monsters, Inc.) and producer Jonas Rivera (Up), the inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.’ It all sounds a bit strange, but so did Up, and that worked splendidly, so we’re more than happy to give Docter the benefit of the doubt. It will come to cinemas May 30th, 2014.
Before these though, we’ve got Brave to look forward to on August 17th next year, and Monster’s University (the prequel to Monster’s Inc.) on July 19th, 2013.
