Terrence Malick certainly seems to have changed his work ethic. It took him 38 years to get his first five movies into cinemas, and now it looks like we might get three (or possibly four) movies from him in as many years. Following his Palm d’Or winning Tree Of Life, he’s already got another, currently untitled, movie in post-production, which stars Ben Affleck, Jessica Chastain, Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz.
Now it appears he has yet another movie that he wants to shoot early next year. As always with Malick, story details are being kept secret (for the film he’s already shot, all we officially know is that it’s a love story), but Twitchfilm reports that it will have a relatively small cast and he’s cast Christian Bale in it. The director and actor worked together on The New World, and Bale was also cast in the untitled romance, but had to be replaced by Ben Affleck due to scheduling issues. However it appears they’re coming back together again.
Malick has also reportedly narrowed down the choices for the female lead to Rooney Mara, Haley Bennett, Clémence Poésy, and Mia Wasikowska.
As well as this movie, there’s also Voyage Of Time, a documentary that Malick is supposed to be putting together from experimental footage leftover from The Tree Of Life, and with Brad Pitt narrating. It’s an impressive change in work output for the director, who’s gone from being famed for being reclusive and hardly ever making a movie, to one of the hardest working helmers in the business.
