I can imagine a lot of women and gay men will already be trying to book tickets for Magic Mike, which promises to be a bit of a cornucopia of buff man-flesh (although may well turn out to be something different to what many might expect, with director Steven Soderbergh calling is ‘sexy, funny and shocking’). It’s already got Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey as male strippers, and now it’s adding another one in the form of White Collar star, Matthew Bomer.
The story is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s days as a teenage male stripper (yep, the GI Joe star used to get his clothes off for cash!). Tatum will also play the title character, with Alex Pettyfer as a younger stripper who Magic Mike mentors both on and off the stage. Matthew McConaughey is set to portray Dallas, a former stripper who now owns the Xquisite club where Magic Mike works.
Deadline has the news about Bomer signing up, although they don’t have much info on his character beyond the fact he’ll be paid to take his clothes off. While he is a talented chap, there’s little down Bomer’s career has been helped enormously by the fact that he’s virtually the definition of chiselled handsomeness, so he should fit well into the cast.
Steven Soderbergh is directing the movie from a script by Reid Carolin, which is said to be in the vein of Saturday Night Fever. It isn’t certain when the movie will start shooting, but it won’t be for a while, as Tatum has only just started shooting GI Joe 2, and will busy on that for the next few months.
