As you would expect from a movie being produced by the super-secretive Christopher Nolan, there haven’t been many plot details released about Man Of Steel, the upcoming Superman movie being directed by Zack Snyder, which has just started shooting. We’ve known the villain would be General Zod and it’s been thought the film would deal with Clark Kent coming to terms with his superhero side, but there’s been little official info.
However a casting call has gone out for extras for scenes being shot on Vancouver Island, and included on that is a plot synopsis. Here it is: ‘In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.’
It confirms the rumours that have been floating around and gives us more of clue as to the tone of the piece, which is likely to be more angsty than previous Superman movies. It’s due out June 2013. (Source: CBM)
