Although some people are still wondering why they’re bothering to make a sequel to GI Joe, we here at Movie Muser are actually quite happy, as we thought the first film was a lot of undemanding but entertaining fun. The follow-up, GI Joe 2: Retaliation, is due out June 2012, and so shooting will start soon. Now Variety reports that Justified and The Shield star Walton Goggins has signed up to play Warden Nigel James in the movie
Paramount is ditching most of the cast of the first film (as well as the originally planned continuing story), although Channing Tatum will be back as Duke, joined by the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki Ray Stevenson, Joseph Mazzello, Arnold Vosloo, DJ Cotrona, Jonathan Pryce, Elodie Yung and RZA. Bruce Willis is also in talks to join the film in the role of the original GI Joe.
As for Goggins, there’s absolutely no info on who exactly Warden Nigel James is, but then there’s not actually been all that much released about the plot for the movie at all. However Goggins is always a good bet, having done stirling work on TV and offering strong support in films like Predators and Cowboys & Aliens.
