With Robert Redford making his first on-screen appearance since 2007 in The Company You Keep (which he’s also directing), it appears he doesn’t just want young whippersnappers Shia LaBeouf and Brit Marling to star alongside him, as he’d also like some more mature company.
It looks like he’s getting that in the form of Susan Sarandon, Julie Christie and Richard Jenkins, who Deadline reports have all signed on for the movie. The film sees Redford as a former militant member of 70s radical The Weather Underground, who’s wanted by the FBI and must go on the run when his true identity is exposed by an ambitious young reporter (LaBeouf).
Unsurprisingly Sarandon, Christie and Jenkins will all also be former radicals, with the ladies playing ex-Weather Undergounds members, while Jenkins will be a college professor who is a link to former militants in hiding.
The Weather Underground was a rather interesting group, which grew from rather Hippie-ish beginnings into something far more dangerous that carried out a series on bombings after literrally declaring war, with the supposed intent of destroying captialism and the US goverment, and most importantly trying to end the war in Vietnam.
The movie starts shooting next month.
