After an exceptionally good reception to screenings at Cannes, many had favoured We Need To Talk About Kevin for the Palm d’Or, but Lynne Ramsay’s film was eventually beaten out by The Tree Of Life. The adaptation of Liones Shriver’s bestselling book follows Eve (Tilda Swinton), who is stunned and horrified when her 15-year-old Kevin commits a massacre at his high school and goes to jail. Eve is desperate to understand how this could have happened, looking back at his upbringing and wondering whether it has anything to do with events from Kevin’s childhood or her relationship with her estranged husband, Franklin (John C. Reilly), who is loving but short-sighted in trying to always view his family in an idealistic way. Now the first teaser trailer for the movie have arrived, which is in English but with French subtitles. It suggests a tense and intriguing movie that’ll be worth seeking out when it arrives in cinemas on October 21st.
