The role of Ryan Reynolds’ wife in the supernatural action thriller R.I.P.D. is going to Stephanie Szostak, according to Variety. The actress was last seen in Dinner for Schmucks and will next appear as Matt Damon’s brain-tumour suffering wife in We Bought a Zoo, but now she’s going a little more ghostly.
The plot revolves around two dead cops, one recently passed away (Reynolds) and the other a gunslinger whos been dead for hundreds of years (Bridges). They work in the Rest in Peace department, which is essentially the divine police department of the dead. The new R.I.P.D. member has agreed to give 100 years service in return for a shot at finding out who killed him.
Stephanie Szostak’s wife character sounds like she’s going a bit Demi Moore in Ghost, as she will sense that Ryan Reynolds’s character is still around in spirit, and he uses her to communicate details of his death. Hopefully they’ll cast Whoopi Goldberg as a fake psychic, as that would certainly liven things up.
R.I.P.D. is eyeing a September start in Boston, with Robert Schwentke directing.
