Anyone who watched the first GI Joe will probably remember that despite the name, it rather lacked anyone called Joe in it. Instead it had Duke (Channing Tatum), who along with his partners was the latest in a line of GI Joes. However it looks like they’re going to make up for that in GI Joe 2: Retaliation, as Bruce Willis in now in talks to play the original Joe, according to THR.
Earlier this summer it was rumoured he was at the top of a wishlist for an unknown role in the flick, and now we know what it is. He’d be General Joe Colton, the man who in the 1980s comic books started the GI Joe strike team, called the ultimate freedom fighting force, and got the handle GI Joe.
Shooting starts later this month in New Orleans, with Channing Tatum back onboard, alongside a largely new cast including Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA, with Jon M. Chu directing. It’ll be in cinemas June 29th, 2012.
