I’m not sure what’s wrong with Matthew McConaughey. After spending years choosing parts seemingly on the basis of how little effort he’d have to put in, he’s recently been picking projects where he actually has to act! After The Lincoln Lawyer, which reminded people he’s actually pretty good when he puts his mind to it, he’s going indie with Killer Joe, onto death row with the Paperboy, and now he’s in talks for the drama, Mud, according to Deadline.
He’s not the only one though, as Reese Witherspoon will star alongside him, and so will young Tye Sheridan (The Tree Of Life). The film is the redemptive tale of a charismatic fugitive named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) and his unlikely friendship with 14-year-old Ellis (Tye Sheridan). Ellis is determined to help his new friend escape from both the law and some very serious bounty hunters, in order to reunite Mud with his soul mate, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon).
Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) is writing and directing the film, and was originally eyeing Chris Pine for the title role. That can’t have worked out though, as McConaughey is now installed in that part.
