Ever since 2007, Zack Snyder has been backing a movie that a far cry from his usual effects filled fantasies such as 300 and Watchmen. The film, called The Last Photograph, revolves around a photograph that becomes the catalyst for a journey two men undertake through war-torn Afghanistan.
However up until now Snyder only been producing and a while ago things seemed to be moving forward when Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) was hired to direct. However now it’s all change, as Oplev is out and Snyder himself has signed on to helm the movie, according to Twitch. There’s no info on why the change came about, so that’s a bit of a mystery.
It’ll be a while before he gets round to it though, as of course he’s got Man Of Steel to make first. The delay also puts question marks over the involvement of Christian Bale and Sean Penn, who were attached when Oplev was helming. Bale would be playing a reporter who who witnesses and is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans. Penn meanwhile was up to play a retired Special Ops soldier who arrives in Afghanistand determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped. The journalist agrees to help identify the kidnappers and travel the rough terrain to find them, in exchange for the story. We’ll just have to wait and see whether the Bale and Penn actually do end up in the movie.
