Twitch has been on a real role in the last couple weeks with their scoops, and while much of it has been about offers and possibilities rather than signed on the dotted line deals, there’s no doubt they’ve been doing pretty well. Their latest is that Paramount is now pursuing director Alexandre Aja to helm their planned remake of Pet Sematary.
Aja has been mentioned in connection with the movie before, as he’s ben high on many wishlists, but thing have now moved foward with the studio actively courting the director for the job, and the two sides now in talks. He’d be a pretty decent fit, as he has good form reworking properties and making them seem fresh with the likes of The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D and Mirrors, and he’d certainly serve up a gory, wince-inducing take on the Stephen King tale.
The novel was first published in 1983, and became a mildly successful film in 1989, and sees the Creed family newly arrived in a small town. After their cat gets run over, they bury it in a local pet cemetary, only for it turn turn up in their house, alive but now incredibly vicious. Then, when they’re young son is killed, they decide they want him back, but get far more than they bargained for. As the tagline for the movie said, ‘Sometimes… dead is better.’
Matthew Greenberg (1408) has been on scripting duties for the remake, but all eyes will now be on whether Aja takes the job.
