With Noam Murro (Smart People) going off to concentrate on 300: Battle Of Atermisia, the director’s chair has opened for Die Hard 5 once more. Yesterday, rumours emerged that John Moore (The Omen, Max Payne) was up for the job. Since then Deadline has done a little digging and come up with the shortlist of directors who may take over from Murro.
Fox isn’t just planning to have meetings with Moore, but will also be considering Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Justin Lin (Fast Five), and Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive). It’s great to see Cornish on the list, as while he may still be best known to some as one half of comedy duo Adam & Joe, he’s currently becoming the toast of Hollywood with his genre mash-up, Attack The Block.
Apparently Die Hard 5 will find John McClane navigating the rough terrain of Russia, once again in the wrong place at the wrong time. Moore is probably still the most likely choice though, as he was the first named and he’s only ever made movies for 20th Century Fox, meaning they already have a strong relationship. He wouldn’t be the best choice, but he is pretty likely.
An official announcement on who will direct Die Hard 5 is expected soon.
