Cary Fukunaga certainly doesn’t seem ready to get into a settled style yet, as after handling modern immigration with Sin Nombre and a period drama classic with Jane Eyre, THR reports that he’s signed up for an existential sci-fi flick that sounds a bit like DOA mets The Matrix, with a touch of Inception chucked in.
Jeff Vintar’s script (which Fukunaga will now rewrite) for Spaceless follows the plight of an assassin who wakes up to find himself tumbling helplessly through space. He must solve must solve the mystery behind his own impending death, which began when he broke into an orbiting space station to carry out a hit. His only help is a computer that will aid him until his oxygen runs out and he dies. Before long, the man begins to question his reality, wondering if he is locked in a virtual environment created by his enemy.
It’s not certain when Spaceless will start shooting, but Gore Verbinski will produce.
