It was a surprise to many when Rob Kazinsky – best known as Eastender bad boy Sean Slater – scored a role in The Hobbit movies as one of the dwarves. However after getting to New Zealand, he had to drop out of the role for unspecified personal reasons, which could well have derailed any Hollywood dreams he had.
However Guillermo Del Toro may have helped him out on that score, as Variety reports the director has snapped Kazinsky up for Pacific Rim, and also notes them Willem Dafoe is in talks for the movie as well. The film, scripted by Travis Beacham, is set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, city by city. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. The movie is influenced by Japanese mecha, with humanity fighting back with giant robots, piloted by people. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Max Martini have already been cast, with shooting starting this autumn.
Willem Dafoe is being eyed as a rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures, while Robert Kazinsky would portray a member of the team trying to defeat the invaders. It’s a far cry from Walford Square – unless that’s where the aliens decide to attack, of course.
