After playing the villian in X-Men: First Class, it seems Kevin Bacon has decided that sometimes bad guys have more fun, as he’s now in talks to be the main antagonist in the comic-book adaptation R.I.P.D. Variety has the news, saying that while nothing is signed yet, he’s currently in negotiations.
He’d be a great addition to a cast that already includes Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. The plot revolves around two dead cops, one recently passed away (Reynold) and the other a gunslinger whos been dead for hundreds of years (Bridges). They work in the Rest in Peace department, which is essentially the divine police department of the dead. The new R.I.P.D. member has agreed to give 100 years service in return for a shot at finding out who killed him. That murderer will presumably be Bacon’s character, although that’s no explicitly mentioned in the Variety article.
Robert Schwentke will direct R.I.P.D. from a screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, which is adapted from the comic book series created by Peter M. Lenkov. It should be in cinemas June 2013.
