In the world of Hollywood, quite a few actresses get five minutes of fame when everyone in Hollywood wants to cast them, but very few manage to go on to sustained careers in the movie limelight. One actress many would bet on to to become a true a-lister is Emma Stone, who’s impressed in the likes of Zombieland and Easy A, and will soon be seen in The Help and The Amazing Spider-man.
Now she may have a new high profile role, as Variety reports that she is in talks for a pivotal role in The Gangster Squad for Warner Bros. and director Ruben Fleischer (who was, of course, her Zombieland helmer). Stone is up for the role of Jean, a sassy woman who gets caught up in an intriguing love triangle between a Ryan Gosling’s LAPD cop character and Sean Penn’s gangster character, Mickey Cohen. Josh Brolin, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, Anthony Mackie, and Holt McCallany will also star.
Ruben Fleischer will direct The Gangster Squad from a screenplay by former LAPD officer Will Beall, which is based on a seven-part newspaper article series by Los Angeles Times writer Paul Lieberman. The story centres on an elite unit of the LAPD who tries to rid the gangster elements from town in the 1940s.
