2010s Nutcracker In 3D managed the rare feat of getting 0% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics not just disliking it, but pouring scorn on the entire thing, with one even calling it One of the most misguided childrens films ever made. As a result the classic Nutcracker story is still waiting for a decent film version, and despite the last attempt being less than a year old, THR reports that Universal has picked up a pitch for a new live-action adaptation of The Nutcracker from John Mann and Jon Gunn.
Although exact details on this version’s spin on the story havent been revealed, the classic tale centres on a 12-year-old girl who, with her brother and sister, receive gifts from their clockmaker-inventor godfather on Christmas Eve, one of which is a Nutcracker doll. That night, the Nutcracker comes to life and the girl begins an adventure that includes a war involving a seven-headed Mouse King and his army of mice, curses and themes of ugliness and beauty.
Theres no director attached yet but Rise of the Planet of the Apes producing team Peter Chernin and Dylan Clarke are behind this venture and will be hoping to put together something that will get a little more love on Rotten Tomatoes.
