The drama will be Robert Redford’s first time in front of a camera since 2007’s Lions for Lambs. Lem Dobbs is on screenplay duties for The Company You Keep, which centres on a former Weather Underground militant (Redford) who’s been wanted by the FBI for 30-years, but is forced out of hiding and on the lam when a young journalist (LaBeouf) uncovers his true identity. The script is adapted from the novel of the same name by Neil Gordon.
Robert Redford will produce The Company You Keep through his Wildwood Enterprises banner along with Bill Holderman and Voltage Pictures’ Nicolas Chartier. The latter commented, “This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about real Americans who stood for their beliefs, thinking they were patriots and defending their country’s ideals against their government. It is absolutely amazing to have Shia LaBeouf, arguably the brightest young star in Hollywood today paired with the global icon Robert Redford.”
Production is scheduled to start in Vancouver this September.
