Scott Derrickson got a surprising amount of praise for his 2005 flick, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, but was rightly panned for his dreadful The Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Since then, while he’s been attached to numerous projects, he hasn’t actually made anything. That seems as if it’s about to change though, as he’s putting together a currently untitled horror-thriller, and THR has revealed that Ethan Hawke is going to star in it.
There’s absolutely no info on the plot, although it’ll start shooting on September 19th (which’ll give Hawke time to complete his role on the remake of Total Recall).
It’s good Derrickson is finally making something and even better that he’s not destroying another sci-fi classic. He’s been attached to everything from an adaptation of Paradise Lost to a film version of the Biblical story of Goliath, but they seem to have fallen by the wayside. What isn’t clear though is whether he’s still planning to remake Poltergeist (but let’s hope not).
